Toshiba Announces Dual 5MP Camera Module With Stereo-3D Shots and Digital Focus

As CES 2014 is nearing (two weeks), we expect several manufacturers unveiling their first set of products for the year 2014. And looks like Toshiba has something to contribute for the Android world this year as they have announced their new new dual 5MP camera module that will work on both smartphones and tablets. The press release from Toshiba states that samples of the module will be available for manufacturers starting on January 31st, 2014, which means we probably won’t see it in any smartphones or tablets until the end of 2014 at the earliest.

Toshiba’s new camera technology will encorporate twin 0.25-inch optical format 5-megapixel CMOS camera module that can generate 13MP images through upscaling, that is capable of simultaneously recording both images. It also has a companion chip that can produce something of a stere0-3D shot. Digital focus and other tweaking options is also encorporated making this camera module unique. The Camera module is also small (since it’s a 5MP camera) to allow manufacturers make thinner smartphones.
