Software update to enable 8-core performance on the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 unlikely to happen

Exynos_Octa

There has been a lot of reports lately saying that true octa-core performance can be enabled on current exynos 5 devices via a software update (see the full report here). But a new report says that by doing so would only be detrimental on the devices.

A chief technical expert from Samsung’s Mobile Solutions department and some if it’s engineers said that even though a software update patch to enable full octa-core performance is very possible, it will not be worth it as there will be some “side effects” like an increase in power consumption and heating of the device. They has also said that the exynos 5 chips are just not made to run all 8 cores at the same time. and since the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 are built to run with only four cores at once, the patch won’t apply to them, at least officially.
