Samsung Octa: Get ready for true “octa” power by the end of 2013

You’d better sit down for this guys, since it looks like Samsung just announced a… “Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) solution for the Exynos 5 Octa”. What on earth is that you may ask? In plain terms, HMP will allow the use of all 8 cores of the octa to be used at the same time!

Currently the octa includes 4 Cortex-A15 cores and 4 Cortex-A7 cores, which is referred to as ARM big.LITTLE technology. In it’s current state, apps run on either the Cortex-A7s (LITTLE) or the Cortex-A15s (big), but now apps will get the benefit of all 8 cores at the same time, something that will obviously enhance both performance and efficiency.

According to Samsung’s official press release, HMP will be introduced in quarter 4, but we still don’t know if current devices could be updated or new hardware is required. If you ask me, I assume the latter unfortunately 🙁

I think it will be better if they focus a little bit on batteries which will do this chipsets to work longer. All these cores are not much if battery last less.
