How To Root The Xperia Z1 And Flash A Custom Recovery

Today, our OmegaDroid YouTube partner – Ash from C4ETech will guide us on how to root the Sony Xperia Z1 and flash a custom recovery in order to get your device ready for some tweaking. Make sure to watch the videos for a more detailed explanation.

First off, we need to download a  stock Android 4.2.2 Xperia Z1 firmware, it also serves as a backup in case we face some issues later on. You can find the Xperia Z1 stock firmwares (.FTF Files) on this xda-developers thread. And if this is your first time flashing a stock firmware on your Xperia Z1 device, you will need to download the Flash Tool as well as the Flash Tool Drivers.

Now we proceed to step 2. Rooting your Xperia Z1 device. We only need one tool for this process and it’s called vroot, you can download it here. It’s pretty easy process, you just need to install root, then connect your Xperia Z1 to your computer, and click the root button. You can watch the video below for a more detailed explanation.

The third step is unlocking your bootloader. You need to download the following tools first.

Note:  Make sure you make a TA backup first. TA is a partition unique to your device and without it, you will not be able to unroot your device. You can watch the video below for the complete guide for unlocking your bootloader as well as backing up your TA partition.

And finally, flashing a custom recovery in order to start tweaking your Xperia Z1 device! We need three files for this, and all the links are provided below. You can watch the guide on the video below.

Doom Kernel
Fastboot Files

That’s it! Your Sony Xperia Z1 device can now run apps that requires root, flash custom roms, xposed themes, and modifications! Enjoy your “un-sealed” Xperia Z1. For more video guides and reviews, just head over to our official YouTube partner/channel – C4ETech.
