With the Nexus 5 and KitKat, Google showed us the new Google Experience as well. A new Launcher that is much different than the one in Android 4.3. But for now it’s available only for the Nexus 5.
The guys from the theunlockr.com made a tutorial about how you can get it to work also in your device without having to wait Google to release it at Play Store. So here is the procedure you need to follow for installing the new Google Home Launcher (a.k.a Google Experience) in your phone.
First you have to allow your phone to install non-market apps. To do this go to Settings – Security and check the box next to “Unknown Sources” menu.
Once all downloaded, you can install them by pulling down the notification bar and tapping the download complete confirmation. You must do it with the following order: First install the PrebuiltGmsCore.apk file, then the Velvet.apk and last the GoogleHome.apk.
When the GoogleHome installation is complete, open it by tapping at the bottom right and choosing “Launcher”. A popup message will be displayed asking you if you want the GoogleHome to become your default launcher. Hit the “Always” option and you are done..
Now you can enjoy the new Google Experience in your device. If for any reason you don’t like the new Google’s Launcher and you want to go back to the one you were using, just uninstall the three (3) applications you downloaded.
