BBM For Android And iOS Scored 10 Million Downloads On It’s First Day – But May Have Produced Some Fake Reviews To Attract Downloads

bbm
BlackBerry Messenger or BBM for short, has just resumed it’s availability on iOS and debuted for Android yesterday. And according to BlackBerry, BBM has racked up more than 10 million downloads in its first 24 hours.

“I’ve seen reports of apps that launched with 1 million downloads in a day, but over 10 million? Amazing,” BlackBerry executive Andrew Bocking said on the company’s blog.

BBM scored 5 million downloads in its first 8 hours, garnering mostly positive ratings with 60,000 five-star reviews out of 87,000 total reviews.

Great Right? BUT WAIT. are all the positive reviews and ratings true?

Android Police has done some police work yesterday and noticed a strange pattern of mostly 5-star reviews with identical comments. (See image below)

Something’s definitely fishy right? As you can see there are numerous 5-star ratings with the same comment structure that says “Thank you so much blackberry team. I was waiting this app. Its really great user friendly and smooth.”
And one can only comment and rate when you have downloaded the app on your smartphone, so it could only mean two things. People coincidentally had the same thoughts and typed in identical comments or, some people made some easy money yesterday by downloading and rating the BBM App to attract more downloads and hype more people out.

But surely 1-5 Million downloads in Play Store couldn’t be fake right? And we can still see some positive reviews from individual users and we even tried the app ourselves (i rated it 4-stars by the way) and we can say that BBM is good enough to compete with other IM apps out there like WhatsApp, etcetera.

So what do you think of BBM’s “impressive” first day? Let us know in the comments below.

Fake? That is a understatement. I noticed that even the ones that have only one or two stars have identical comment structure. The title is also different sometimes. To me it is apparent that the original comments are mass edited, replaced with a standard one, every time they are not in the proper positive note. Just my opinion. I have the filling that this BBM is just one of the last convulsions of a comatose company. There are plenty of other much better alternatives out there.
